Privacy Policy
Overview
URLX is a no-account URL shortener. You do not need to create an account, provide an email address, or make a payment to create a short link.
This policy describes the data URLX handles when you use the site and API. It is written for the current product behavior: no ads, no analytics SDK, and no cookies set by URLX.
Data We Handle
- Submitted URLs: when you shorten a link, URLX stores the original URL, a normalized version, a URL hash, the generated short code, and timestamps so the short link can work.
- Conversion URLs: when you use URL-to-Markdown or URL-to-HTML, the submitted URL is sent to Cloudflare Browser Run so Cloudflare can fetch the webpage and return converted content. URLX does not store the generated Markdown or HTML.
- Metadata inspection URLs: when you use URL Metadata Inspector, the submitted URL is fetched by URLX to read the initial HTML metadata. URLX does not store the submitted URL, fetched HTML, extracted metadata, or generated JSON result.
- Redirect data: when someone opens a short link, URLX looks up the short code and redirects the visitor to the stored destination.
- Optional browser history: if you choose "Remember recent URLs on this device", recent submitted URLs are stored in your browser's local storage. They are not sent to URLX as a separate history list.
- Operational logs: the server and hosting provider may process request metadata such as request path, response status, IP address, user agent, timing, and security-related metadata for operations, debugging, abuse prevention, and security.
Cookies And Storage
URLX does not currently set cookies and does not currently use ad or analytics trackers.
URLX can use browser local storage only if you opt in to remembering recent URLs on your device. You can turn this off or clear recent URLs from the homepage controls.
How We Use Data
- Create and serve short links.
- Return an existing short link for the same normalized URL.
- Inspect public URL metadata and return link-preview diagnostics.
- Prevent local, private-network, and unsupported URL schemes.
- Operate, secure, debug, and improve the service.
- Investigate abuse reports and disable harmful links.
Third-Party Processing
URLX is built for Cloudflare infrastructure, including Cloudflare Workers, Cloudflare D1, and Cloudflare Browser Run. Cloudflare may process hosting, security, database, conversion URLs, webpage content, generated Markdown or HTML, and request metadata needed to provide the service.
Retention
Short-link records are kept while the short link remains active or as needed for operations, security, abuse handling, or legal requirements. Recent URLs saved in your browser remain on your device until you clear them, turn off the feature, clear site data, or use browser controls to remove local storage.
URL-to-Markdown and URL-to-HTML results are returned to the browser and are not stored by URLX. Returned HTML is displayed only as text and is not executed by URLX. Cloudflare may retain operational data according to its service policies.
URL Metadata Inspector results are returned to the browser and are not stored by URLX. Preview images may load in your browser from the source website when the result includes an image URL.
Your Choices
- You can use URLX without creating an account.
- You can leave recent URL history disabled.
- You can clear recent URLs from the homepage.
- You can avoid submitting URLs that contain sensitive personal data.
- You can report an abusive short link to the URLX maintainers using the maintainer links in the footer.
Security
URLX validates submitted destination URLs, rejects unsupported schemes, rejects localhost and private-network addresses, and uses security headers on server responses. No internet service can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure.
Children
URLX is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect children's personal information.
Changes
If URLX changes how it collects, stores, or shares data, this policy should be updated before or when those changes go live.
